As he was battling for his final breaths, former Bewitched star Dick York was in the midst of another passionate fight - one to help the homeless. To honor his heroic and compassionate efforts, Gama Productions is dedicating its upcoming film project, Prince of Paupers, to York’s memory.
Prince of the Paupers is the biopic of superstar Latin newscaster Guillermo Descalzi, whose fall from grace led him from a place in the spotlight - where he interviewed U.S. presidents and world leaders - to homelessness on the streets of Washington, D.C. Descalzi’s triumphant return to television is chronicled in this moving tale, based on his autobiography "Prince of Paupers"
A portion of the film’s proceeds will be donated to the Dick York Memorial Fund, which is managed by Second Harvest, the nation’s leading food bank. The project has also been given a great deal of support from the Breadline of St. Francis of Assisi in New York City and the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney Australia.
“We felt such a connection between the stories of these two extraordinary men that we were moved to honor both in a way that was meaningful," says Fernando Rojas, the film’s producer and champion. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support the powerful work of Mr. York, and to exemplify the triumphant spirit of Mr. Descalzi."
Prince of Paupers is being co-produced with the Audit Trail, Inc., whose past projects include the Oscar-winning film Monster, the critically acclaimed Six Feet Under and the recent Kevin Costner release The Upside of Anger.
