Donald Trump after Navalny's death. “It made me realize what was happening in our country.”

“The sudden death of Alexei Navalny made me increasingly aware of what is happening in our country,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “It is slow and steady progress, and unbalanced, radical left politicians, prosecutors, and judges are leading us down a path of destruction. Open borders, rigged elections, and grossly unfair court decisions are destroying America. We are a dying nation. A broken nation!” – You can read in Trump’s post.

As Reuters points out, it is unclear what similarities Trump was trying to find with Russia's most important opposition leader. Navalny (47 years old) has been fighting for years what he described as massive corruption in Putin's Russia, which is ruled by “crooks and thieves.” Trump's press service did not respond to a request for clarification.

Joe Biden and Nikki Haley criticize Putin

Trump complained on Friday about a judge ordering him to pay a $355 million fine for inflating his net worth to defraud lenders, which he called a politically motivated decision. As he seeks the Republican nomination, Trump is also preparing for four upcoming criminal trials.

President Joe Biden on Friday squarely blamed Putin for Navalny's death, as did Trump's main Republican rival Nikki Haley. “Putin is responsible for Navalny’s death,” Biden said.
