Stephen Sommers directs When Worlds Collide RemakePosted by:According to Variety, Paramount has set "The Mummy" director Stephen Sommers to write and direct a remake of the 1951 Sci-Fi classic "When Worlds Collide", directed by Rudolph Maté. Stephen Sommers will also produce the movie together with Bob Ducsay. The original movie told the story of an impending collision with a runaway star, that signals the destruction of Earth. The government refuses to listen to scientists, but private industrialists finance the building of a space ship, which will carry a limited number of people to another planet to begin a new civilization. Today's science-fiction extravaganzas all pay tribute to the original and pioneering 1951 classic, from producer George Pal ("War of the Worlds" 1953), which won an Oscar for its spectacular effects.
