More Talk of Robin in Dark Knight Rises

More Talk of Robin in Dark Knight RisesOver and over we keep hearing rumors of Robin appearing in the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight franchise. This despite the fact that Mr Nolan has said on many occassions that ROBIN will not appear in his films. Some feel that the time line is right to introduce Robin and with the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt it is inevitable that Robin will appear but I for one am dead against it.

WILX has pushed the Robin rumors to the forefront again with reports that the production team are scouting for  a location to base Robin’s hideout out of stating;

“They looked at the Ledges as well as a water treatment plant located inside the park. Sources say the area is being considered as a hideout for Batman sidekick Robin.”

My feeling is this. There will be no Robin just as Christopher Nolan has said repeatedly. How do you possibly fit a teen sidekick into a movie with such heavy and dark over tones? You cant and frankly you wouldnt want to for fear of downplaying the great performances that have come before, ala Heath Ledger as Joker may he Rest in Peace!

I think we will see a new character introduced who may or may not be a sidekick as much as a new Dark Knight of Gotham which will also open things up for Warner Brothers to do as the X-Men Movie franchise has and begin its own new origins time line for Dark Knight.  My Money is on Joseph Gordon Levitt playing Night Wing!

Nightwing is a far more interesting character because it plays well into the dark vision that Christopher Nolan has bought to the franchise. Little bit of potential spoiler talk here. In the Dark Knight Bruce Wayne’s one true love is killed by the Joker and in the end he is wanted and on the run from the police. Bruce Wayne clearly wants to hang up the mantle and after becoming wanted its a chance for Christopher Nolan to take things to new darker levels as Batman seeks out revenge and inadvertently his own destruction as he goes from hero to wanted criminal.

Christopher Nolan could segway into the 2009 Nightwing comics by killing Batman at the end of The Dark Knight rises and have Nightwing take over the mantle. This would be a fantastic opportunity for Warner Brothers to continue the franchise with a new director and make mountains of cash with a Nightwing origins story. The 1996 to 2009 comic book Nightwing has plenty of source material and with the correct director and writing team, like Kevin Smith for example, it could turn into a fantastic new film franchise. There is a huge catch here of course in assuming that DC Comics would be ok with Christopher Nolan killing off one of their most treasured heroes even knowing that Warner Brothers will reboot Batman a few years from now anyways with a new director.

Lets be honest do any fans really want to see Robin? Do you really want to see a spin off Robin movie? Heck no. Would you like to see a bad ass Nightwing side kick spun off into its own origins story? Absolutely! What do you think of all the Robin talk will Christopher Nolan put him in or stay true to his word?

    FFFFFAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRT.

ROBIN SUCKS!… Adding his charecter will be franchise suicide!

  3. Batman will be complete even without this sidekick. Batman works since the beginning without Robin. Besides, Batman is a bat. Robin is a bird. Kinda gay. lol

@perrywest ur a fuckin stupid asshat Batman has always been with robin hes only been without robin one year in his entire comic book history you fucking ignorant douchebag moron robin rock and your a stupid ass fuck off loser!

again good information for the less informed on Robin and his history with Batman but please try and present it in a more polite fashion.

They were in fact scouting locations for a new sitcom spin-off called ‘Robin’s Lair’, possibly starring Chris O’Donnell a lá Joey. Burt Ward would cameo as Dick’s camp uncle. I wonder if it’ll be in 3D?

You can’t have nightwing without robin seeing as how nightwing is Dick Grayson after he stopped being robin. Do you know anything about batman lore? Or are you just writing rants without any common sense?

    • Matt Videll

well nolan can go straight to nightwing and show dick grayson having flashbacks of his crime fighting nights as robin. maybe take like 30 minutes from the movie of grayson talking to bruce about him as robin and how he became nightwing.

    • The Dark Knight

I personally like the idea of having Jason Todd as Red Hood or Dick Grayson as Nightwing and I get what you’re saying that tyou can’t have Nightwing without Robin but it does sort of make since for Nolan’s vision. Plus the hwole circus acciden doesn’t fit in with the Nolanverse

It would make sense to just add nightwing . They can have robin show up in the movie once but they need to explain how nightwing came to be and where he was the whole time . It wouldn’t make the movie less awesome . It would just make it the best movie ever! There would be more viewers since a lot of people like nightwing and batman. So it makes sense to add him. Hopefully they do

I am a huge nightwing fan and always will be. I’d like to see Nightwing take on the mantle of the bat. But don’t kill off bruce. In one of the books with Jason Todd bane paralyses bruce and Todd takes on the mantle of batman. Maybe Nolan can do the same except make it to where Dick Grayson takes the mantle and bruce can give intel and missions to nightwing. kind of like in the batman beyong animated series.

    • Headset_peace

jason todd was already dead in that book…Bane does paralyze batman so he asks Nightwing…formerly Robin to put on the batman suit, Bruce Wayne previously asked a man Jean-Paul to put on the batman suit but we would later kill the criminals he caught…seeing as how that isnt how batman operates, Jean-Paul is forced to leave the suit and Nightwing will put on the mask occompanied by Robin (Tim Drake)…Todd never took up the mantle because he’s dead….I do agree we need a Robin/Nightwing character in the new movie…they are crucial to the batman vs. bane storyline, bane was too much for batman, and while he recorporates from his broken back, Nightwing assumes the role. I feel robin is essential to the batman storyline, whoever thinks that he’s not, obviously doesnt know batman…robin has saved his ass on multiple occasions. However Nightwing would be easier to portray in a darker more realistic story. Batman needs a sidekick, he wouldnt be alive(i know he’s not a real person) if he never had a sidekick

  7. The Dark Knight

I’d like the idea of maybe Joseph Gordon levitt playing Nightwing but not Robin, although he could be Jason Todd as RedHood since it has already been stated in The Dark Knight that there are copycat heroes.RedHood would be kind of cool. But dont make him too big.

  11. John Treuberg

Robin is great, but with Nolan’s current setting he would never fit in, and Nightwing wouldn’t make sense without the Robin story, so i guess al the rumors will stay as rumors.

  12. Mexi_dude

    My guess…
They end the film with Joseph Gordon Levitt helping Batman. Someone makes a comment about Batman looking into finding a parter and it ends with Bruce taking a break and going to the circus. That would be an interesting way to include the idea of Robin without Nolan actually putting him in the movie. Remember that they did that at the end of Batman Begins by teasing the idea of the Joker.

  13. Mswift601

Anyone who thins Robin suck is a ignorant ass!!!! Obviously these idiots haven’t read a Robin comic book in 30 yrs! Robin is just as bad ass as Batman, maybe more if u consider he’s been doing this S#%? since he was 9!! Don’t talk about S•%# u don’t know about!! This includes your idiot god of a director Nolan!!

  14. Aubreyt17

I think they should introduce a new masked male crime fighter to the franchise. Batman isn’t getting a new suit for the movie so I would at least like a little variety in the look of masked vigilantes and crime fighting gadgets. And Nightwing WOULD work without him being Robin first. The movie doesn’t have to follow the comic book page for page. In the comic book Batman wasn’t trained by Ras and I don’t remember the Joker falling into any chemicals in The Dark Knight, but hey it still worked, right?

    • Robert Clark

I don’t remember any actual Joker origin in The Dark Knight, the Joker may or not have fallen into chemicals.  I wouldn’t mind if Levitt actually played a Tim Drake-esque character that somehow deduces who Batman is and then maybe they change it so that there is no Robin, but just Nightwing.  I can’t see Grayson’s acrobatic fighting style fitting in with these movies either.  I think many fans don’t understand the importance of a Robin character when it comes to Bruce Wayne’s personal battle against his inner demons, but this is something that has been debated since way before these movies came in to existence.  This is also why Robin is much more effective as a younger character, but most average movie goers wouldn’t accept a crime fighter as young as the Robins were.

Robin needs to be in the movie.

  16. Tempest720

I wouldn’t mind seeing Nightwing in the movie. It would make sense for “John Blake” to hunt Batman at first then realize Batman does good and help him to defeat Bane. I saw in an interview that Joseph Levitt add no comment if he is Robin, but the way he was saying it made it seem like it is a possibility based on him not saying straight up No. Also I think if Nolan did do a Robin that he would keep it a secret and a surprise for his last film. If there was one person to get Robin right it would be Nolan just based on his realistic style.

  17. Tdrdaphenix

Why do we just throw robin aside. He is damn good character, who is important to the batman story. However, he will not appear Joseph Gordon Levitt is played that Jean Paul Valley played in the comic Knightfall, after batman is injured by bane. A young ambitious cop (Levitt) will take on the batman moniker and fight bane.

  18. Kevinisthebatman

Nightwing wtf ya’ can’t just place his ass in the movie. Having Dick Grayson as Robin in ’95 & ’97 didn’t ruin those movies but of the lack of Tim. Which comes to my point of Nolan. Having Robin in the film won’t mess up the bat but of a 2, 3 hour movie. Cause lets face it, they would have to pull off some magic to add Robin the boy wonder. I like the idea to end the movie with a hanger of something showing or talking of Dick Grayson.

  19. Kevinisthebatman

Todd sorta came back alive posed as batman when bruce thought had died. Then Dick & Tim kicked his ass.

  20. Niggapleeze

this is unfortunate, the first remake was excellent, the second one was amazing, now they ruin it with Robin, the worst homo sidekick in comic history. Just leave him out, Batman doesnt need Robin. This will kill the Franchise. Bale knew it, they still went with it. This movie will do well, but will suck like Spiderman 3. Fuck Robin! Stop bringing Bruce Waynes Cub Scout homo love child back into the picture, he sucks, it’s gay when Batman has to babysit, kill this fucking character.

  21. Tzulu1914

The Dark Knight Rises is based on the graphic novel KnightFall, which Robin is a huge part of to leave him out is crazy to me. You don’t have to like the character but he is an important part of batman lure, just because it didn’t work in one movie doesn’t mean it couldn’t work in this one Chris Nolan is creative enough to put in a character, that enhances the batman character by showing him as a mentor!

  22. Shannonlogan20003

Correct me if I’m wrong but you can’t just their nightwing in a movie without explaining to an audience that he was robin at one point in time you have to think about the younger viewers of these movies (because let’s face it they wouldn’t be making toys of these movies if they weren’t no meter how dark these movies are or can get) you can’t just throw a half assed oh I’m nightwing and a 30 min explanation of he used to be robin batmans sidekick cuz then you’ll have to deal with backlash of well where was he mentioned in the previous two films from fans of these movies so there had to be him getting a robin-esque character somewhere in this batman universe

  23. Sfasd

”…with the correct director and writing team, like Kevin Smith for example, it could turn into a fantastic new film franchise.”And with that one line,  ANY credibility you might have had crumbled faster than those two bridges in the trailer.

  24. Mat9575

I think the problem is people see Robin as the camp 1960s Burt Ward Robin or associate him with the downfall of the films of the 90s but Robin has the potential to be dark too as any of the comic book readers will know that the current Robin (Damian) is very dark, even more so than batman.

  25. Kyle

I know the comic Universe has Dick being Robin and THEN NightWing however, Nolan can always skip the whole Robin thing as it never existed and Dick just become NightWing. Batman films don’t have to follow comic book plots we’ve seen plenty of times directors take their own spin on Batman. As a fan of NightWing I wouldn’t mind skipping the whole Robin idea.

  26. Djghost215

I disagree. No one will go see Nightwing movies like they see Batman movies. This is the end of the Dark Knight Trilogy, not Batman movies. I believe they will move forward, and even with C. Bale…new director, maybe. Finally, I believe we won’t see Robin, but I believe we will see Dick Grayson.

  27. Jallan957

I believe that robin will make a cameo but he wouldn’t be robin yet. The third trailer is showing some evidences of night wing is going to be introduced in to the movie.

  28. Jallan957

If you guys new anything about christopher nolan, he doesn’t care about batman lore. He said that he was going to make batman the way he envisioned it. I do believe I read that there was going to be a surprise in the dark knight rises. Also Christian bale said he wouldn’t do another batman if they put night wing in it.

  29. Erndog

They should have batman kill off Bane have joseph levitt appear afterwards wearing the robin fit saying holy rusted metal batman u kicked his a$$ and then batman turns to levitt and say’s wtf are u doing here and why are you wearing that stupid a$$ costume!! the end.

  30. brucewayne

as you say robin wont fit into a movie as this apparently as you look in batman arkham city game he looks like the perfect character.also you should be lucky without robin they would have stoped making batman comics then when he was put into the pics the creators made a triple amount of money then decided to let it stay.im a huge robin fan also batman no hard feelings but i say he should come back.

  31. Cok90

No Robin but have Nightwing instead? That’d suck. You can’t skip Dick Grayson’s time as Robin or have a totally random character suddenly take over for Bats.

IMDB lists some random actor as Tim Drake (rumoured), which is also a stupid idea.

  32. Capiseric

It’s the perfect time to break Batman’s back and begin Batman Beyond.

  33. Kaliandhohn

I think nightwing and robin both should  be in the dark knight rises because when batman gets bashtup they jump out and kick but……..

  34. Paryshe

Just saw the movie and I think that Nightwing is a definite, but will they make a movie revolving around him? GOD, I hope so!

  35. stinger

therw will be another dark night movie, they would not have brought tim drake in the fold , all you have to do watch and listen
