More Talk of Robin in Dark Knight Rises

Robin vs Night Wing in Dark KnightOver and over we keep hearing rumors of Robin appearing in the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight franchise. This despite the fact that Mr Nolan has said on many occassions that ROBIN will not appear in his films. Some feel that the time line is right to introduce Robin and with the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt it is inevitable that Robin will appear but I for one am dead against it.

WILX has pushed the Robin rumors to the forefront again with reports that the production team are scouting for  a location to base Robin’s hideout out of stating;

“They looked at the Ledges as well as a water treatment plant located inside the park. Sources say the area is being considered as a hideout for Batman sidekick Robin.”

My feeling is this. There will be no Robin just as Christopher Nolan has said repeatedly. How do you possibly fit a teen sidekick into a movie with such heavy and dark over tones? You cant and frankly you wouldnt want to for fear of downplaying the great performances that have come before, ala Heath Ledger as Joker may he Rest in Peace!

I think we will see a new character introduced who may or may not be a sidekick as much as a new Dark Knight of Gotham which will also open things up for Warner Brothers to do as the X-Men Movie franchise has and begin its own new origins time line for Dark Knight.  My Money is on Joseph Gordon Levitt playing Night Wing!

Nightwing is a far more interesting character because it plays well into the dark vision that Christopher Nolan has bought to the franchise. Little bit of potential spoiler talk here. In the Dark Knight Bruce Wayne’s one true love is killed by the Joker and in the end he is wanted and on the run from the police. Bruce Wayne clearly wants to hang up the mantle and after becoming wanted its a chance for Christopher Nolan to take things to new darker levels as Batman seeks out revenge and inadvertently his own destruction as he goes from hero to wanted criminal.

Christopher Nolan could segway into the 2009 Nightwing comics by killing Batman at the end of The Dark Knight rises and have Nightwing take over the mantle. This would be a fantastic opportunity for Warner Brothers to continue the franchise with a new director and make mountains of cash with a Nightwing origins story. The 1996 to 2009 comic book Nightwing has plenty of source material and with the correct director and writing team, like Kevin Smith for example, it could turn into a fantastic new film franchise. There is a huge catch here of course in assuming that DC Comics would be ok with Christopher Nolan killing off one of their most treasured heroes even knowing that Warner Brothers will reboot Batman a few years from now anyways with a new director.

Lets be honest do any fans really want to see Robin? Do you really want to see a spin off Robin movie? Heck no. Would you like to see a bad ass Nightwing side kick spun off into its own origins story? Absolutely! What do you think of all the Robin talk will Christopher Nolan put him in or stay true to his word?

your correct in your robin info but you dont have to be quite so harsh in how you present it

  • http://www.paramountwest.com/ Perry West

Batman will be complete even without this sidekick. Batman works since the beginning without Robin. Besides, Batman is a bat. Robin is a bird. Kinda gay. lol

    • Clarklois1

again good information for the less informed on Robin and his history with Batman but please try and present it in a more polite fashion.

They were in fact scouting locations for a new sitcom spin-off called ‘Robin’s Lair’, possibly starring Chris O’Donnell a lá Joey. Burt Ward would cameo as Dick’s camp uncle. I wonder if it’ll be in 3D?

      rofl.. comedic gold.

You can’t have nightwing without robin seeing as how nightwing is Dick Grayson after he stopped being robin. Do you know anything about batman lore? Or are you just writing rants without any common sense?

    • Matt Videll

well nolan can go straight to nightwing and show dick grayson having flashbacks of his crime fighting nights as robin. maybe take like 30 minutes from the movie of grayson talking to bruce about him as robin and how he became nightwing.

    • The Dark Knight

I personally like the idea of having Jason Todd as Red Hood or Dick Grayson as Nightwing and I get what you’re saying that tyou can’t have Nightwing without Robin but it does sort of make since for Nolan’s vision. Plus the hwole circus acciden doesn’t fit in with the Nolanverse

I am a huge nightwing fan and always will be. I’d like to see Nightwing take on the mantle of the bat. But don’t kill off bruce. In one of the books with Jason Todd bane paralyses bruce and Todd takes on the mantle of batman. Maybe Nolan can do the same except make it to where Dick Grayson takes the mantle and bruce can give intel and missions to nightwing. kind of like in the batman beyong animated series.

    • Headset_peace

jason todd was already dead in that book…Bane does paralyze batman so he asks Nightwing…formerly Robin to put on the batman suit, Bruce Wayne previously asked a man Jean-Paul to put on the batman suit but we would later kill the criminals he caught…seeing as how that isnt how batman operates, Jean-Paul is forced to leave the suit and Nightwing will put on the mask occompanied by Robin (Tim Drake)…Todd never took up the mantle because he’s dead….I do agree we need a Robin/Nightwing character in the new movie…they are crucial to the batman vs. bane storyline, bane was too much for batman, and while he recorporates from his broken back, Nightwing assumes the role. I feel robin is essential to the batman storyline, whoever thinks that he’s not, obviously doesnt know batman…robin has saved his ass on multiple occasions. However Nightwing would be easier to portray in a darker more realistic story. Batman needs a sidekick, he wouldnt be alive(i know he’s not a real person) if he never had a sidekick

  • The Dark Knight

I’d like the idea of maybe Joseph Gordon levitt playing Nightwing but not Robin, although he could be Jason Todd as RedHood since it has already been stated in The Dark Knight that there are copycat heroes.RedHood would be kind of cool. But dont make him too big.

Robin is great, but with Nolan’s current setting he would never fit in, and Nightwing wouldn’t make sense without the Robin story, so i guess al the rumors will stay as rumors.

  • Mexi_dude

    My guess…
They end the film with Joseph Gordon Levitt helping Batman. Someone makes a comment about Batman looking into finding a parter and it ends with Bruce taking a break and going to the circus. That would be an interesting way to include the idea of Robin without Nolan actually putting him in the movie. Remember that they did that at the end of Batman Begins by teasing the idea of the Joker.

  • Mswift601

Anyone who thins Robin suck is a ignorant ass!!!! Obviously these idiots haven’t read a Robin comic book in 30 yrs! Robin is just as bad ass as Batman, maybe more if u consider he’s been doing this S#%? since he was 9!! Don’t talk about S•%# u don’t know about!! This includes your idiot god of a director Nolan!!

    • Robert Clark

Are you talking about Drake or Grayson?

  • Aubreyt17

I think they should introduce a new masked male crime fighter to the franchise. Batman isn’t getting a new suit for the movie so I would at least like a little variety in the look of masked vigilantes and crime fighting gadgets. And Nightwing WOULD work without him being Robin first. The movie doesn’t have to follow the comic book page for page. In the comic book Batman wasn’t trained by Ras and I don’t remember the Joker falling into any chemicals in The Dark Knight, but hey it still worked, right?

    • Robert Clark

I don’t remember any actual Joker origin in The Dark Knight, the Joker may or not have fallen into chemicals.  I wouldn’t mind if Levitt actually played a Tim Drake-esque character that somehow deduces who Batman is and then maybe they change it so that there is no Robin, but just Nightwing.  I can’t see Grayson’s acrobatic fighting style fitting in with these movies either.  I think many fans don’t understand the importance of a Robin character when it comes to Bruce Wayne’s personal battle against his inner demons, but this is something that has been debated since way before these movies came in to existence.  This is also why Robin is much more effective as a younger character, but most average movie goers wouldn’t accept a crime fighter as young as the Robins were.

Robin needs to be in the movie.
