The 'Black Panther' actress was seriously injured after being hit by a car while eating on a terrace

Actress Carrie Bernans, known for her role as the Dora Milaje in Marvel's “Black Panther” franchise, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in New York on January 1.

Ms. Bernans was eating outside a restaurant when a driver fleeing from police drove up to her terrace, NBC News reported.

The 29-year-old actress and stuntwoman was left unconscious and with numerous broken bones, bruises, fractures and broken teeth, according to reports shared by her mother Patricia Lee on Instagram.

The latter also notes that “medication given to relieve pain between her surgeries” prevents her from breastfeeding her eight-month-old son.

On a Gofundme she set up to fund her medical bills, Ms Bernans says she is “full of hope and confidence in this new chapter of her life”.

For their part, New York police say they responded to an argument between the 44-year-old driver and his 34-year-old passenger prior to the crash.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver instead decided to take to the sidewalk, where he reportedly crashed into a grocery cart and three pedestrians.

He reportedly crashed into two parked cars and a moving vehicle.

Two police officers and a passenger in the vehicle were also injured.

The driver was eventually arrested and taken into custody.

Carrie Bernans has appeared in many films and series as an actress and stuntwoman over the years, most famously in “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Endgame,” in which she played the Dora Milaje.
