In a joint statement, the Ministry of Culture and the Singapore Tourism Board said officials had worked directly with tourism organizers to finalize arrangements for the event.

Last week, Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said she had an exclusive deal with Taylor Swift that would see her perform exclusively in Singapore in the Southeast Asian region.

Singaporean officials declined to disclose the size of the subsidy and did not specify whether an exclusive deal had been struck behind the confidentiality of business deals.

They stressed that the star's concerts would “generate significant benefits for the Singapore economy”.

An entertainment industry veteran, who did not want to be named, told AFP that it was “not unusual to ask” for exclusive contracts, but “it is not very common for artists to accept this request”.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore attracted many international artists, including South Korean K-pop girl group Blackpink, British singers and musicians Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran, and British pop rock group Coldplay.

Taylor Swift is scheduled to perform six sold-out concerts at the Singapore National Stadium in early March, with an expected audience of over 300,000.

After Singapore, the singer will continue her tour in Europe. The tour is estimated to have grossed $2 billion.
