Hakeem is back with his Guide to the April 8th Weekend. As you will recall last week his guide was late because he was captured by UFO's and used for some diabolical scheme involving farm animals and re-population of pluto. Or at least thats what I took his "sorry its late" as meaning. This weekend he is back ( a bit late ) and here is what you all crave, the weekend movie guide as to what you should be watching!
This is what's coming out in the US this weekend and the number of theatres.
- Sahara - 3,154
- Fever Pitch - 3,000
- Melinda and Melinda - 300 (Expanding)
- Eros - 11
- Kung Fu Hustle (NY and LA)
Sahara: Sahara Movie Review
An action adventure movie that seems like National Treasure 2, it also borrows from Flight of the Phoenix and the star is Matthew McConaughey as an Idniana Jones wannabe. Penelope Cruz is hot but can't act in english. And Steve Zahn is the only great thing about this movie as the sidekick.
Fever Pitch: Fever Pitch Movie Review
Jimmy Fallow makes us forgive him for Taxi with this great story about a Boston school teacher obssessed with the Red Sox and how his new girlfriend (played by Drew Barrymore) deals with it. Directed by the Farrelly Brothers, this movie is really a winner.
Melinda and Melinda: Melinda and Melinda Movie Review
Woody Allen is back after a year without movies and I hear his the best work in over 15 years, and he's an early favorite to get an Original Screenplay Oscar. Funniest man alive (maybe) Will Ferrell stars in the Woody role with Radha Mitchell as the titular Melinda. Chloë Sevigny and Chiwetel Ejiofor costar.
Eros: Review Coming Soon!
This is one I can't wait to see. It consists of 3 short films made by Michelangelo Antonioni, Steven Soderbergh and Wong Kar Wai, one each. There's comedy and drama, and they're mostly about relations, love and sex. Robert Downey Jr. and Alan Arkin headline Soderbergh's short titled 'Equilibrium'. Antonioni's is called 'Il Filo pericoloso delle cose' and Wong Kar Wai is called 'The Hand'.
Kung Fu Hustle: Kung Fu Hustle Movie Review
I watched Shaolin Soccer for the first time last week. Maybe because it was soccer portrayed in a way that's close to my childhood, but I just loved that movie. Now Stephen Chow is back with Kung Fu Hustle, and the has a lot of stuff like his previous one for the first 40 or 50 minutes, but from there it jumps into excellency mode and it was one of the best movies I've seen this year. A great experience too, the theatre was laughing out loud at the physical comedy and clapping and screaming at the excellent fighting.
So, What to Watch in order of Best films first!
