Sony Classics Acquires 2046

Today it was announced that Sony Pictures Classics has aquired distribution rights in North America for Wong Kar Wai's "2046". I'm glad that Sony Pictures Classics has picked this film up. They have always done a good job with bringing some great Asian films over to the states.

"I am pleased that "2046" has found the right home in North America," Wong Kar Wai said in a statement. "The Sony Pictures Classics team demonstrated to me that they had the passion, strategy, experience and resources to give my film the winning positioning and commitment it deserves in order to present 2046 to the North American audiences."

"2046" deals with love, romance, pain, choices and lost opportunities. "He thought he wrote about the future," the film's narration says of main character Chow Mo-wan, "but it really was the past. In his novel, a mysterious train left for 2046 every once in a while. Everyone who went there had the same intention: to recapture their lost memories."

"2046" follows a writer, who thought he wrote about the future but it really was the past. In his novel, a mysterious train left for 2046 every once in a while. Everyone who went there had the same intention ... to recapture their lost memories.

It was said that in 2046, nothing ever changed. Nobody knew for sure if it was true, because nobody who went there had ever come back - except for one. He was there. He chose to leave. He wanted to change.

"2046" will have its U.S. premeire at the Tribeca Film Festival, which will be followed by a general release in the fall.
