Come Brother let us quest together! A few simple words that quickly unleash laughs, hijinx, brutal violence, cock trophies and so much more in this hilarious new film from the creators of Pineapple Express and starring the funnier half of the duo James Franco from that very film. With a mix of strong main characters, hilarious co-stars and sub-characters Your Highness is offensive, funny and outrageous.
Throughout history, tales of chivalry have burnished the legends of brave, handsome knights who rescue fair damsels, slay dragons and conquer evil. But behind many a hero is a good-for-nothing younger brother trying just to stay out of the way of those dragons, evil and trouble in general. This is the premise of Your Highness the latest film from the team that brought us Pineapple.
Danny McBride and James Franco team up for an epic comedy adventure set in a fantastical world—Your Highness. As two princes on a daring mission to save their land, they must rescue the heir apparent’s fiancée before their kingdom is destroyed. Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he’s settled for a life of wizard’s weed, hard booze and easy maidens.
But when Fabious’ bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off. Half-assedly embarking upon his first quest, Thadeous joins Fabious to trek across the perilous outlands and free the princess. Joined by Isabel (Natalie Portman)—an elusive warrior with a dangerous agenda of her own—the brothers must vanquish horrific creatures and traitorous knights on their quest to save Fabious’s one true love.
Danny McBride not only co-stars in the film but also helped write the script for this medieval film of tomfoolery, toilet humor and chastity belts. Does it live up to all the hype? Is it as good as Pineapple express? Not quite but its damn close.
Your highness is quite honestly summed up as a medieval take on Pineapple Express with the same formula in play as a duo, this time brothers set out to quest for glory and the salvation of one true love. Natalie Portman is thrown into the mix and proves once again why all us Star Wars fanboy’s fell in love with her strong empowered characters packed full of sex appeal. Natalie Portman is a babe and casting her as a strong female character not only works but once again makes us dudes fall in love with her and wish she would go ‘questing’ with us!
Much like Pineapple Express, Your highness has its slow points but it also has some outrageously funny moments and one liner’s that will have you chuckling long after you leave the theatre. From mystical monsters that want to ‘get it on’ to the agent legend of ‘the f**kening’ Your Highness delivers exactly what you might expect. Silly one liners, homophobic commentary, outrageous innuendos and yes plenty of laughs. Once again James Franco steals the show but Danny McBride puts in a good showing as does Natalie Portman in this low brow chuckle fest that will have you shaking your head, groaning and laughing all in the same breath.
Your Highness is exactly what you might expect. Fun! A definite must see but clearly not suitable for the youngsters… or perhaps I am just getting old and out of touch with the times. If you loved Pineapple Express you will enjoy Your Highness!
