Wonka: An exhibition based on the film fails

Recently released in cinemas, the movie “Wonka” is a prequel to the popular movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” It tells the story of Willy Wonka's youth and early career. Due to the popularity of the new film, an exhibition was created, but it did not meet customer expectations.

The premiere of the “Willy Wonka Experience” exhibition was supposed to be a unique event, inspired by the novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” – or at least that is how it was advertised. During the event in Glasgow, participants witnessed optical illusions and amazing installations related to the famous character. Chocolate delicacies and many amazing things were expected.

Also, tickets for the event were not the cheapest. The entrance fee costs £35, or about PLN 180. According to the colorful website, participants were expected to watch Oompa Lombo shows and interactive attractions inspired by Roald Dahl's book. But in the end, the event did not live up to expectations. One of the parents who wanted to visit the event with their children said about the hall’s equipment:

-There were maybe 20 chairs, some tables, and a half-inflated bouncy castle.

Willy Wonka's experiment turned out to be a failure. Many of the exhibits were placed in a cold, empty warehouse. The Independent published a short article on social media, which you can view below:

According to one parent, children at the event received two jelly beans and then a half cup of lemonade. The eerie atmosphere of the exhibition is also created by the combination of colorful exhibits and a soulless space with gray walls and floors. Interestingly, the event was canceled a few hours later on Saturday afternoon. After the event was cancelled, police were called to the site.

One photo showing a woman dressed as an Oompa Loompa also went viral:

Vulture magazine conducted a short interview with her. The woman said she more or less knew what she was signing up for from the beginning. In a conversation with reporters, she confirmed that she and her friends tried to have fun. However, much of the performance was made up on the fly. The animator admitted that she saw disappointment not only in the eyes of the children, but also in the eyes of their parents.

– When the first group of kids showed up…don't get me wrong, it was still an incredibly bad group, but we did what we could and everything was fine. We just had fun with it,” the animator said.

film “Wonka“It has become a blockbuster, and will soon also be available on video on demand and streaming services.
