It turns out that more and more people decide to go on one-day trips to the seaside and abandon booking accommodation. “The era of one-day tourists” – this is how local activists from the Na Mierzeje website describe this phenomenon. This trend is confirmed by the comments of many Internet users under the published video.
The main reason tourists give up on accommodation is the high prices. Internet users are pointing out the ridiculous level of prices this season. One TikTok user commented: “A cottage for three people with a dog for 900 PLN per day, short term stay. For this price, I would fly to Budapest and stay overnight.”

- Benefit from proximity to home (for residents of the area)

Tourism industry representatives defend the high prices, arguing that they have to earn enough for the whole year during the two months of the summer season. However, this strategy may backfire, scaring away potential customers.
This new trend could have dire consequences for the local economy in coastal cities. Although tourists continue to arrive, their short stays and limited spending may impact revenues not only of the accommodation industry, but also of the catering and service industries.
This phenomenon poses new challenges for the tourism industry. It may be necessary to adapt the offer to the changing preferences of tourists, perhaps by offering more flexible accommodation options or one-day packages.
This year’s season on the Baltic Sea clearly shows that the traditional model of coastal tourism is undergoing a major transformation. Is the “day trip era” a temporary trend or a long-term change in consumer behavior? The answer to this question could be of fundamental importance to the future of beach resorts.
