Myth undermines Świentek's position: “Sabalenka is the best in the world”

Sabalenka easily defeated Chinese Cheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-2, to win her second Grand Slam title in her career.

In Melbourne, the classification runner-up looked fantastic from start to finish. She did not lose even a set in seven matches. The most difficult match for her was the semi-final, where she defeated American Coco Gauff 7:6 (2), 6:4.

The 25-year-old from Minsk has a unique streak. Sabalenka has reached at least the semifinals in the last six Grand Slam tournaments, dating back to the US Open in 2022. Therefore, she is certainly the most consistent tennis player in this period.

Roddick stressed that Sabalenka had managed to resolve service issues that were responsible for a large number of double misses in 2022.

-You like it when progress and hard work are rewarded. What's even more impressive is that it was heavily criticized 15 months ago. There were questions about her mentality and belief in her game. From the beginning it was clear that she had great physical strength, but she deserved the biggest applause for dealing with her problems. She has done so comprehensively – Roddick no doubt said in an interview with Tennis365.

The former tennis player admired Sabalenka's perseverance and repeated excellent results.

– I don't know if anyone, after looking at her two years ago, would have said that she would be the most consistent player on the planet. “She has every right to believe that she is the best tennis player in the world right now,” the American adds.

Świątek was eliminated at the 2024 Australian Open in the third round. She lost to Czech Linda Noskova 6:3, 3:6, 4:6.
