The security situation is “tense.”

Fixed border controls with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland were recently extended for six months – until mid-December. It was first ordered by the Home Office in October 2023. Since then, it has been extended several times. The goal is to combat human smuggling and reduce illegal immigration. Surveillance has been continuing on the German-Austrian border since the fall of 2015.

However, there are no concrete signs of planned attacks in connection with the European Championships. During the tournament, in addition to German officers, about 580 foreign police officers will be deployed, mainly in patrol and rail transport facilities.

According to the Ministry, this comes within the framework of intensive cooperation with the security authorities in the participating and neighboring countries and potential transit countries. The International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC) in Neuss (North Rhine-Westphalia) is the heart of this national and international cooperation.
