Education Minister Jean-Franசois Robert explains in a letter dated June 23 that, by a ministerial decree, the Provisional Bank of Compensation Leave could be partially restored to employees overseeing the school environment. The letter explains that the move is a compensation for “extra stress and a heavy burden on management staff.” This applies to “any person who held an executive or senior executive position from March 13, 2020 to June 30, 2021”.

A mechanism is planned so that executives leaving their jobs can “earn money on leave not taken at the time of their departure, equivalent to a maximum of five days”.

School staff “forgot”

However, unionized employees do not have the same leave in the education network, which has angered the Central des Unions to Quebec (CSQ), which represents about 110,000 school workers.

“The ministry’s decision sadly forgets that last year all school staff worked hard, from counting hours, to teaching staff to first aid staff and professionals,” lamented CSQ chairwoman Sonia Ethereum.

Without taking anything away from the work of school administrators, the action announced by the ministry establishes a double standard and sends an interesting message to the thousands of women and men who work in schools that have brought our children’s education at arm’s length.

An administrator at a school service center was also “slandered” by the announcement.

“I consider it rude that everyone is making substantial efforts to overcome this epidemic and we have to pay for 10 extra holidays next year,” he said, reprimanding the executive and asking that his name not be released. Boss and colleagues.

Our requests to the Ministry of Education to try to find out the reasons for this decision have not been answered.
