The Frenchwoman, who is four years older than her, does not have the best memories of confrontations with Polish tennis players. However, for the first time she will face Frisch, who is currently 50 places behind her in the WTA rankings.

Garcia will be the favorite in Wednesday's match, not only because of the seeding difference, but also given the level she showed in the first round. Her opponent wasn't just anyone, the reigning Grand Slam champion from Japan, Naomi Osaka, who returned from maternity leave. The Frenchwoman won 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), and was particularly impressive thanks to her powerful serve.
