Anbernic RG405M – a new retro console with an IPS display and Hall sensor-based joysticks

There was a lot of buzz around Anbernic last year. The manufacturer now and then introduces new (more or less successful) devices designed primarily for old games. Just two months after the RG35XX model debuted, a trailer was shown for the upcoming console branded the RG405M. This time we will also be able to count on an IPS screen and support for a large number of emulators. From Gameboy and PSP to PlayStation 2.

Anbernic has just introduced a new model of retro game console RG405M. On board we will find a very efficient processor and an IPS touch panel.

Retroid Pocket Flip – A compact Nintendo DS-like console that can emulate a large number of devices

We already know a lot about the console itself. Visually, the Anbernic RG405M looks quite classic while reminiscent of the better equipped RG505. The device is powered by the Unisoc Tiger T618 8-core processor known from the previously described Retroid Pocket Flip console. In combination with the Mali G52 graphics chip, we will be able to play even the titles from the PS2 or Wii mentioned above. The screen is an IPS touch panel with a diagonal of 4 inches and a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. In this aspect, it is quite standard, and everything is complemented by 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM with a clock frequency of 1866 MHz. The built-in memory is probably a 128 GB eMMC. It can be expanded by another 512 GB using the memory card slot.

MNT Pocket Reform – A fully modular, open source mini PC is now available for purchase

The device is also equipped with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity standards. A decent 4500 mAh battery was also used here. It’s also worth noting that the joysticks use a Hall sensor, so you don’t have to worry about their lifespan. There is also a 6-axis gyroscope which will work in many games. As in the OLED version, the system supports OTA updates. Since Android 12 is in charge, we have more entertainment options – streaming, gaming in .apk format, and access to many other emulators. We pass into the unknown: the dimensions of the device and, most importantly, the price and release date are not specified. It is expected to debut at any moment, as in the case of existing equipment from Anbernic. But for now, you have to be patient.
