Early Terminator Salvation Reviews

Posted by: Michael

The early reviews are in for Terminator Salvation and so far its a mix of good and bad. I will admit I liked the movie but recognize it has some flaws. Flaws which I am willing to overlook. Lets take a quick look at what various people are saying about Terminator Salvation. Worth noting that their are no spoilers at all in this post. First off our own verdict from Stark who saw it a few nights ago;

While it didn't necessarily blow my socks off, it definitely delivered some good fun and some great action!  There were certainly some things lacking, and obviously some things that were missing, but these minor flaws can be overlooked at the expense of a really fun movie that ties in nicely with the original trilogy, has amazing cinematography and will really immerse you inside the world of John Connor. Overall he gives it an 8 out of 10. Then we move to ScreenRant where they give it a 3 out of 5. They write;

This movie just didn’t have any soul. Beyond Worthington’s character, I didn’t connect with, or really give a damn about anyone in this movie - especially John Connor. I have no doubt that Christian Bale is a good actor, but he seems to be stuck in permanent Batman-mode. Even when he’s supposed to be showing emotion he seems cold and distant, and that Batman rasp in his voice seems to be lingering. I might even venture as far as to say that he was miscast in the role. [ read the entire review ]

On HorrorMovies.ca they also take a positive spin on the film giving it an 8 out of 10 saying;

Right off the bat as much as the film is true to the time line and respects all three past films it is also its own animal. You see right off the bat that the future is different and Skynet has for a lack of a better term, evolved. The three main characters Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin and Christian Bale deliver outstanding performances with a special prop going to Sam Worthington. As much as I expected Christian Bale to steal the show its Sam that does. Sam delivers in the role of Marcus and from the very opening scenes of the film draws you deep into his character. Where Christian Bale did a good job, Sam Worthington did an excellent job. I felt he was Marcus and I stopped seeing Sam. His character, and his role in the film was definitely the highlight. The film played to much on the fact you knew who John Conner was and did nothing to advance his character which was a bit of a let down.  [ read the entire review ]

Lastly we have TheMovieBlogs verdict

Even with moments that deliberately drop the “Come with me if you want to live” and “I’ll be back” lines (yes, they both happen) this movie seems to be suffering from the same unquantifiable stigma that curse both Sequels and Prequels. This movie is technically both. Don’t hurt your head too much on that one.

As a sequel, we want a movie that leads us to the next part, showing us something new, something exciting, something kicking something’s ass. [ read the entire review ]
