So this is an awkward case of “he said/she said.” On one hand we have Carrie Fisher confirming that her, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford will return for Star Wars Episode 7. On the other hand we have Mark Hamill denying he heard anything about that. Let the sibling rivalry begin!
Earlier this week Carrie Fisher talked with TV Guide about her upcoming cameo on “The Big Bang Theory”, it was there that she let loose with this little bit of information:
As for the next Star Wars film, Fisher says she, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamillare expected to report to work in March or April. “I’d like to wear my old [cinnamon buns] hairstyle again — but with white hair,” she says. “I think that would be funny.”
The appearance of the three franchise stars has been a long standing rumor ever since the idea of a “Star Wars” sequel began kicking around. Whether true or not, it just seems like the most obvious rumor to pursue and now with Carrie Fisher confirming it, it seems to be a certainty. Or is it?
During a Reddit “Ask me Anything” Mark Hamill responded to the quote by saying that:
The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn’t stopped beeping about it. Haha. I’m not being coy, really. When I find something out, I’ll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet.
So which is it? Are the three space amigos returning? And if so, why the mixed message? It could be that Carrie said too much and that Mark is simply covering his bases. As much as I want to believe Luke Skywalker, I gotta believe that he won’t spill the details.
Another possibility is that the actors were approached about their availability for the project. Not necessarily that they would be used in the film, but perhaps Abrams wants to make sure they are available in case they are needed.
It’s hard to say for sure and it looks as if we’ll simply have to trust the Force to guide us through these murky rumors.
