Gladiator 2: Will Paul Mescal replace Russell Crowe?
The Russell Crowe sequel will be produced and directed by Ridley Scott, creator of the first Gladiator movie. Also associated with the project are Janty Yates (costumes) and Arthur Max (set designer), who worked on the original.
The author of the latest draft of the screenplay is David Scarpa, with whom Ridley Scott worked on this year’s show “Napoleon” and the previous film “All the Money in the World.”
Plot details are unknown. However, we know it won’t be the story of Maximus, originally played by Russell Crowe (Nick Cave dreamed of his return years ago). The hero of “Gladiator 2” will be Lucius, the grandson of Marcus Aurelius, son of Lucilla and nephew of the evil Commodus. In the epilogue of “The Gladiator” he is saved from death by Maximus.
