Cate Blanchett will star in Pedro Almodovar’s first feature film in English, The Feminine Hygiene Guide. This is an excerpt from the 2015 short story collection Guidelines for Clean Ladies by Lucia Berlin.

What would the movie “Guide to the Janitor” say?

The literary prototype consists of the stories of 43 women who do different types of household chores. The author talks about ordinary life and moments of revelation: in self-service laundries, in social rehabilitation centers, in upper-class dorms, and among telephone operators, struggling for the lives of mothers, commuters, and bad Christians. Berlin focuses on life’s fleeting moments, seemingly insignificant events or those we don’t notice in our daily routine (publisher description).

Work on adjusting the screen at an early stage. Blanchett and Almodovar produce The Women’s Cleaning Guide through their companies Dirty Films and El Deseo. This investigation was funded by the studio New Republic Pictures (“Rocketman”, “1917”).

Blanchett – who won an Academy Award for her roles in “Aviator” and “Blue Jasmine” – can currently be admired in Adam McKay’s comedy “Don’t look up.” On January 28, Guillermo del Toro’s thriller “Nightmares”, in which the star played alongside Bradley Cooper, will be shown on the screens of Polish cinema. This year we’ll see her in three more films – “TAR” by Todd Field, “Borderlands” by Eli Roth, and “Pinocchio” by del Toro and Mark Gustafson.

Almodovar’s filmography ends with the melodrama “Parallel Mothers”, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
