Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and new owner of Twitter, called on voters to vote for Republican Party candidates in Tuesday’s US congressional elections. Forcing the two sides to share power would mitigate their “excesses,” he said.
“For independent voters…the separation of powers limits the worst abuses of both parties, so I recommend voting for the Republican Congress, as the presidency belongs to the Democrats,” the new owner of the site wrote on Twitter. He added that independent voters will decide the outcome of the elections.
muskDescribing himself as a “moderate” voter, he announced in the summer that he would vote Republican. He also indicated that in the 2024 presidential election he will support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is considered the main contender Donald Trump within the Republican Party.
The Tesla and SpaceX owner has previously argued that he has voted in the past for Democratic candidates in the overwhelming majority of elections, including Joe Biden And the Barack Obama. At the same time, he said, for Twitter to deserve the public’s trust, it must be politically neutral, “which in practice means angering both the far right and the far left.”
On Tuesday, US voters will decide the composition of the House of Representatives and a third of the Senate. Currently, the Democratic Party has the upper hand in both houses. According to expert forecasts, Republicans are the strongest candidates to win a majority in the House of Representatives, and the chances of both parties to obtain a majority in the Senate are estimated at 50-50.
