Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski replaced Iga Światek and Hubert Hurkacz in the mixed doubles during the semi-final of the 2024 Fed Cup. The Polish duo won the third point for the Whites and Reds in the match against the French.
The match between Poland and France was decided thanks to Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Światek after the singles matches, so the captains of both teams decided to make changes. Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski joined the mixed doubles. Their opponents were Elixan Lekimia and Edward Roger Vaslin.
The fate of the first version was decided in the first matches. Firstly, the Poles defended their submission. They then scored a break with a pass from Roger Vasselin. Our representatives confirmed the break and then guarded the advantage. They finished the opening match with a score of 6:3.
There were some difficulties in the second part of the match. The French scored a break and went 3-1. However, the reaction of the Poles was great. Roger Vasselin lost serve twice and Lechimiya once. The Whites and Reds have won five games in a row, thus winning the entire match.
After 68 minutes, Kawa and Zielinski finally won 6:3, 6:3. Their victory did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the entire match, but it brought some benefits to our representatives. The biggest is the financial reward for appearing in the semi-finals.
Kawa and Zielinski set the result of the match against France at 3-0. The White Team and the Reds qualified for the final of the 2024 Federation Cup team competition and will compete for the title on Sunday. Their opponents will be Australians or Germans.
