Legia Warsaw is searching for a new attacking midfielder after selling Ernst Muchi to Besiktas for €10 million. According to Samuel Szczygielski, Sebastian Kowalczyk has become an unexpected transfer candidate.
According to Meczyki.pl journalist, the Polish runners-up authorities are working to attract the 25-year-old, who is currently playing for Houston Dynamo. Negotiations are about to take place.
Kowalczyk, born in Szczecin, is a long-time player at Pogoń. The former Polish youth representative played 186 matches with the first team, in which he scored 19 goals and provided 21 assists.
He left the ranks of “Pride of Pomerania” after the 2022/2023 season, during which he scored six league goals, in fact shortly after the start of the current season. Houston Dynamo may have offered €500,000 for him.
In the second half of the 2023 American League competition, he was able to appear on the field eight times in the main part. He also made a brief appearance in the playoffs. His team reached the Western Conference Finals, losing to Los Angeles FC.
The Polish contract is valid until the end of this year, but includes the option of extension.
Kowalczyk is well known by Legia coach Kosta Runjai who worked with him in Pogoń.
