James Cameron on ‘Avatar 3’: We have two years of hectic post-production ahead of us
James Cameron described post-production on Avatar 3 as “frenetic”. He confirmed during the New Zealand press conference that he and his team are doing their best to arrive on time for the premiere scheduled for December 19, 2025.

We’re entering a very hectic couple of years of post-production. So the movie will hit theaters on Christmas 2025 – said James Cameron. At the same time, he revealed that he will obtain New Zealand citizenship in 2024. The director has been working there regularly since 2005, when the first part of “Avatar” was produced. He announced that he linked his professional future to this country “indefinitely.” He also promised that this is where all subsequent parts of the franchise will be created.

“Avatar 3” was originally scheduled to premiere on December 20, 2024. However, in June, Disney decided to postpone the premiere of that series and subsequent versions of it. Therefore, “Avatar 4” will be shown on screens in December 2029, and “Avatar 5” in December 2031.
