“I don’t want a new Call of Duty deal. I just want to block your merger.”

During a meeting with UK officials, Jim Ryan brought up the issue of Microsoft’s transaction with Activision Blizzard. The head of PlayStation has publicly admitted that he is not really interested in getting access to the famous shooter, but he is trying to block the purchase.

The Competition and Markets Authority published a new document yesterday, clearly showing that Sony will not give up and still does not agree to take over the company responsible for famous brands such as Call of Duty, Diablo or Overwatch. The PlayStation manufacturer notes that after the conclusion of the contract, developers may sabotage the PS5 and PS4 versions of Call of Duty, moreover, they refer to the proposal of the Americans – to refuse to add the series to PS Plus.

The case was commented on by Activision Blizzard director Lulu Cheng Meservey, who previously criticized Sony’s staunch resistance by posting an overly crude meme and encouraged FTC officials to watch “The Last of Us” series.

Currently, an Activision Blizzard representative has admitted that the giant from Redmond is serving the Japanese A 10-year contract for Call of Duty with much better terms, quoting the PlayStation boss’ words:

Microsoft offered Sony (which has dominated the game console market for over a decade, with 80% market share) a 10-year deal on much better terms than Sony could get from us.

We’ve also offered Sony long-term guaranteed access to Call of Duty.

But they still refuse.

Why?”

The CEO of SIE answered this question in Brussels.

In his own words:

“I don’t want a new Call of Duty deal. I just want to prevent your merger.”

On February 21, at a meeting with officials in Brussels, Jim Ryan reportedly stated this He doesn’t really care about Call of Duty, and his job is to block Microsoft’s deal with Activision Blizzard. This statement somewhat contradicts the promoter’s vision, according to which the producer feared the condition of the PlayStation community would worsen if Americans limited access to games only to their platforms.
