Army losses are five times less than Russia's

-We know that tens of thousands of people died. Tens of thousands of children were deported. If we compare the number of fallen soldiers, I would say the ratio is 1:5. For every Ukrainian soldier who died in battle, there were 5 Russian soldiers. He said in an interview with the American Fox News channel that these are approximate statistics.

The president noted that the Russians lost more than 400,000 soldiers.

Ukrainian losses

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has not officially disclosed its losses. In 2022, the Commander-in-Chief said nearly 9,000 people died. Soldiers, without mentioning other numbers.

The head of the Servant of the People party, David Arakhamiya, suggested that Zelensky reveal data about Ukraine's losses in the war so that the public understands that the losses are “not as great as they imagine.”

Meanwhile, former Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said that one of the reasons for not disclosing losses was the safety of the defenders themselves. According to her, when planning operations, the army relies in particular on data on the number of combat-capable personnel in enemy units.

Can Kiev still win the war?

Business Insider quotes several experts who suggest that Ukraine is not lost yet. Michael Kaufman, a senior scholar at the Carnegie Endowment, said Ukraine should take a “control, build and strike” approach.

In his opinion, during the “control” phase, Ukraine must dig in and protect the front line sufficiently to destroy Russian forces. If the defense forces continue to resist Russia, this would put the attackers in a weaker position.

By maintaining the front line, Ukraine can “expand” its military by rebuilding, training, and expanding its domestic defense industry, as well as by supporting Western partners. The “strike” component involves hitting Russia’s weak points in order to limit its defense capabilities. The expert explained the capabilities and created opportunities for further offensive actions in Ukraine.
