Heath Ledger is the Joker?

There has been a fair share of rumors pertaining to the identity of the actor who will be playing the famous role The Joker in the upcoming sequel to Batman Begins. First Paul Bettany was in "talks", and then Robin Williams really really wanted the part, and recently it was jokingly announced that Paul Reubens had won the part. Now the latest rumor to surface is supposed to be the real deal. The scoop comes from LatinoReview.com who were the first folks to reveal that Brandon Routh was going to be the next Superman, so the source is at least reputable. They are currently saying that Heath Ledger has been officially asked to dawn the trademark face paint. It doesn't say if Ledger actually accepted the offer, but he'd have to be a fool not too.

 

Should he accept, Ledger will be joining Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman for production on the sequel which is scheduled for release in 2008. The Joker will be the primary villain in the film, but the plot may also involve a new crime boss by the name of Salvatore Maroni. There are no rumors of further villains, but it's always possible that the Scarecrow might show up again.
