What a two-legged match! A series of penalty kicks decided the fate of promotion against City and Real Madrid

A penalty shootout would decide the winner of the Champions League quarter-final, in which Manchester City and Real Madrid faced each other. In the end, Carlo Ancelotti's side reached the semi-finals and won the round series 4-3. After 120 minutes, the score was 1:1.

“The Royal” took the lead in the 12th minute of the match. The scoring drive began with a long pass from Dani Carvajal that was intercepted by Jude Bellingham. The Englishman played with Fede Valverde. He passed a wonderful ball to Vinicius Junior, who raced into the penalty area. The Brazilian sent the ball deep into the sixteen. There, Rodrigo freed himself from the care of the defender. Ederson blocked the Real Madrid striker's first shot, but had no chance of the rebound.

The hosts could have equalized a few minutes later. Erling Haaland narrowly missed his header. The Citizens threatened the visitors' goal again in the 27th minute of the match. Kevin De Bruyne's shot from outside the penalty area was blocked by Andrey Lunin. Just before half-time, Jack Grealish made a run down the left side of the pitch, but his shot fell into the side netting. The players went to the locker room with the score 1-0 for Real Madrid.

In the second part of the competition, the English champion team was looking for a way to score an equalizer. They were able to penetrate the Royal defense several times, but this did not translate into scoring goals. Łunin was well behaved between posts. The goal came in the 76th minute of the match. Jeremy Doku, who entered the field a few minutes earlier, played the ball into the penalty area. The pass was accidentally intercepted by Antonio Rudiger. The ball was at De Bruyne's feet. The Belgian calmly hit the crossbar and equalized.

The “citizens” did not hesitate and decided to follow his example. They moved to Real Madrid's half and attacked more boldly. In the 82nd minute of the match, De Bruyne missed a great opportunity to score a goal. The 32-year-old was in the perfect position to shoot, but he sent the ball over the crossbar. At the end of the second half, the home team maintained visual superiority, but it did not translate into goals. It became clear that additional work would be necessary.

The extra 30 minutes were not decisive. Rudiger wasted the best scoring opportunity. The German actor could have given Real Madrid the lead, but he missed an opportunity from very close range. Finally, it's time for series eleven.

It started with a sure shot from Julian Alvarez. A moment later, Luka Modric approached the ball. But the Croatian shot a very weak shot, which Ederson easily blocked. But the joy of the “citizens” did not last long. Bernardo Silva shot into the middle of the goal. Lunin did not rush and stayed in place, thanks to which he was able to catch the ball without any problems. After him, Jude Bellingham got closer to football. The Englishman confidently beat Ederson. Then he hit Mateo Kovacic. However, Lunin sensed the City midfielder's intentions. The Ukrainian saved the second penalty kick in this series.

Then Vazquez, Foden, Nacho and Ederson, who this time played the role of scorer, scored. Finally, Rudiger got to the ball. The German scored a goal to ensure his team won 4-3 on penalties and qualified for the Champions League semi-finals. In the two-legged match, which will include participation in the grand final, the Royal team will face Bayern Munich. A few tens of minutes ago, the Bavarians had eliminated Arsenal.
