Serditaja Chuvashia reported that 19 people were killed and at least 40 others were injured. Other front-line sources reported that up to 120 soldiers were killed or wounded, and a battalion composed mainly of Chuvash was completely routed.

The Chuvash are an ethnic minority living in the Chuvash Republic, which is part of the Russian Federation and located in its European part. Like other minorities, they are drafted into the army more often than ethnic Russians, the nv.ua portal wrote.
