Two women were stabbed to death Saturday inside the MoMA, New York’s prestigious Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which has been evacuated, according to several sources, including police.

The most-visited museum in New York, located in Midtown Manhattan, was evacuated shortly after the incident at 4:15 p.m. Police have set up a security ring and the museum will be closed Saturday, an AFP photographer at the scene said.

The suspect, who was not arrested on Saturday afternoon, was introduced by police as a regular visitor whose MoMA membership card had expired after two incidents at the museum.

When he refused to enter on Saturday, John Miller described how he “got angry (…) and jumped on the reception desk, attacked two museum staff and stabbed them several times”.

Many videos and photos posted on social networks or in the media showed visitors leaving the museum from the moment they left.
