Scientists note white dwarf About 1,400 light-years away from Earth… it extinguishes and ignites at an unexpected speed. This observation is the first time such behavior has been observed in a dying star. Scientists have observed the body using a planetary search satellite, which only adds flavour.
The white dwarf lights up quickly and goes out
Of course, stars of this type who act this way are nothing new. In their case, the whole process takes from several days to several months. However, the white dwarf in question changes its brightness in just 30 minutes. The brightness of a white dwarf is affected by the amount of matter it is feeding around. On the other hand, things of this kind often devour her sister’s more economical supplies, giving her strength. In this case, however, the whole process is turbulent. Astronomers believe that something is preventing the white dwarf from accumulating matter. When the star is on, its brightness is high and the object is feeding on the surrounding accretion disk.

However, it turns off suddenly, causing the brightness to drop drastically. Scientists believe that the process that causes this phenomenon is known as the magnetic gate. This happens when the white dwarf’s magnetic field rotates so fast that it forms a barrier that prevents material from reaching the star. The magnetic gate causes a slight increase in brightness at semi-regular intervals. Hence the 30 minute course. Scientists continue to study the object, hoping to learn more about the physics of accretion, and the processes by which objects feed on matter from neighboring stars.
