The European Southern Observatory (ESO) has released a new image captured by the VLT. It was taken as part of a larger organized initiative called the VST Southern Galactic Level and Bulge Survey (VPHAS+). The project aims to observe nebulae and stars in visible light and better understand the formation or death process of objects of this type.
Astronomers photographed the nebula with the ESO camera OmegaCAM wide-angle camera on the VLT Survey Telescope (VST) at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. The captured object is classified as IC1284. that it Emission nebulaA bright, diffuse cloud of ionized gas that emits its own light. Here we see large amounts of red light, which is the result of the processes taking place in this area. It’s associated with Hydrogen synthesis and new star formation. “Its pink glow comes from electrons in hydrogen atoms: they are excited by the radiation of young stars, but then they lose energy and emit light of a specific color or wavelength,” the European Southern Observatory said in a statement.

“The dust in the reflection nebula scatters shorter, bluer wavelengths from nearby stars, giving these nebulae a stunning glow. The sky is blue for the same reason,” explains the European Southern Observatory.
As an interesting fact, it should be noted that in one of the images taken using the VLT, an exoplanet was discovered located in a triple system, that is, with three stars. The planet in question orbits one of them, a large gas giant with a mass about 15 times greater than Jupiter. The discovery is located in the HIP 81208 system, 480 light-years away, which has been known to astronomers for a long time.
