Before we start pointing out Micheniewicz’s faults, I would like to ask if there is any silver lining to his work at Abha.
It’s hard to find any positives. It is often said that the Saudis make their decisions rashly. We lost two or three games and that’s it. This is not the case. It was not that Abha, led by Mishnejevic, achieved the same results but the style.
There were no reasons to trust him in the long term. Nothing was going well there: neither behind nor in front. There was no clear concept of this team on the field. This was not Greece at Euro 2004, which won thanks to its tight defence. It was difficult to find any patterns when counterattacking. Set pieces were not Abha’s weapon either.
I am a patriot and support Czeslav Miscenevic in his future career, but looking impartially, if I were a member of the Abha management, I would also question whether it makes sense to continue investing in this coach. Because is anything happening at all, or is there any possibility that things will get better? Oh no. Objectively speaking, a good decision was made.

Abha Czeslaw Michniewicz “looked tragic.” Grzegorz Krychowiak is at the opposite end
“In the previous season, Abha lost a lot of goals because of taking too many risks,” Grzegorz Krychowiak told me before the matches started. The same cannot be said about Mičniewicz’s tenure, because there were not many expected goals for Abha.
Offensively, Abha looks terrible. There is no one who can lift this team or give them any advantage.
But it must be said to Krychowiak that he is one of the players in Abha who looks the best. You can’t blame him. This is not the weak link in the team. What did Abha Club really promise itself after Michniewicz’s arrival?
Czesław Mičniewicz was assigned the task of stabilizing the situation in Abha. This team was supposed to be from the second half of the table, from positions 10-13. Thanks to the Polish coach, they were supposed to take a step forward: instead of fighting for relegation until the end of the season, they were supposed to slowly climb to the top of the table.
In fact, it’s worse than last season. After these eight rounds, everyone sees it as the first candidate for relegation. There is no opportunity to improve either offensively or defensively.
Even the fans wanted him fired. This is the most painful thing. They were initially happy to have a top-notch coach, from their point of view. They can boast that they signed someone who beat Saudi Arabia in the World Cup. Time has proven that.
What does Czeslav Mishnjevic have in his defence?
Saad Nateq Al-Iraqi, who was at the head of Abha’s defense last season, was injured. Polish fans may not like the Iraqi goalkeeper, but he is a player who not only managed the defence, but also neutralized his rivals’ best snipers. He simply took them upon himself. Something like Thiago Silva at Chelsea.
But Czeslaw Michniewicz could have arranged the remaining puzzles better anyway.

How important is the departure of Felipe Caicedo and Saleh Jamaan Al-Amiri from Abha’s position?
Caicedo was disappointing last season. This was not a player who in any way helped them stay in the league. He was seriously overpaid, so he was dumped without any remorse. Al-Amiri, who left for Al-Ittihad, is different.
But it wasn’t as if anyone forced Michniewicz to bring in players. He could have been involved in transfers and said directly that he did not want this or that player.
He was treated well there. They did not insult him in the end, nor did they rob him of his respect. They thanked him formally. Everything was done with class. No one hurt him. Simply put, Michinevich has not proven himself over these four months.
For some time there has been talk about there being arrears owed to players who play in the Saudi League. Aren’t you afraid that Michniewicz will get the full amount?
nothing. Such things happened, but they are in the past. The Saudi League is very keen to promote globally, so if they allow themselves to fall behind, it will be a marketing mistake.
It is no coincidence that figures like Steven Gerrard are only asked to speak in superlatives about this league. If Czeslaw Michniejevic starts complaining about the lack of payments now, it will be a shot in the foot for the Saudis.
Step back
Mičnević did not help himself by eliminating a weak second division side, Hüjer, in the Copa del Rey.
It was a creeping victory. A modest 1-0 result after extra time against a team at a lower level in the competition. But the club’s management was most affected by the defeat against Al-Ta’i Hail (0:1 – Ed.). This team is certainly within reach of Abha, and is competing for relegation. However, it ended in a loss, and it was decided that Al-Wahda would be more offensive, and the score ended at 0:4.
What’s next for Czeslaw Michinevic?
It’s not as if he has cut himself off from working in Saudi Arabia in the future. Naturally, he will still be targeted by teams from that region, but also from poorer Asian leagues, such as Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. Whatever you say about him, as coach of the European national team, he was eliminated from the group in the World Cup and also played in the European Cups, so he is an attractive target for Asian clubs.
There is no point in burying Michnevich alive, but it must be said objectively that this step was not successful by the Abha authorities. Under the leadership of the previous coach, this team was supposed to reach a higher level, but it took a step backwards.
I wonder if Czeslaw Mečenejevic will beat his chest because he couldn’t get through to his players and find some concepts to score points. Another thing is that the league is not easy. Each team has representatives from their countries, and they have stars brought in from Europe, so you have to work hard to get those points. Well, that’s why Michniewicz was hired. He was seen as an experienced tactician, but – as you can see – it didn’t work out.
