If you’ve been waiting for the new version of the Steam Deck, you’ll have to be patient. The premiere of the equipment will not happen very soon.

There’s no denying that Valve’s Steam Deck has shaken up the laptop industry. The success of the equipment has led other manufacturers to create similar solutions. The device’s bottleneck is definitely its performance, especially in AAA titles. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a little longer for the newer, more powerful version.

At least that’s what Pierre-Loup Griffis, one of the designers working at Valve, said. He recently gave an interview to the portal the edgeduring which he confirmed that Steam Deck will not be getting a new version anytime soon. What is the main reason for this decision?

It turns out that the company does not want to introduce major changes so as not to increase power consumption and thus shorten battery life.

It’s important to us that Steam Deck delivers consistent performance to developers, so the message to customers is simple: every Steam Deck user can play the same games. The performance gains cannot be underestimated, but we don’t want to do that unless they are significant. We don’t want this to come at the expense of power efficiency and battery life. I don’t expect this to happen in the next few years, but we continue to monitor developments in architecture and production processes to see where this is headed.

Although Griffais’ comment on this thread may sadden people waiting for a more capable version of the Steam Deck, it’s still important to remember that the device may undergo further releases. Valve may follow Nintendo’s guidance and release an improved version of its hardware.

With competition growing every week, this would be a good solution. The debut of ASUS ROG Ally showed that handheld performance is not the most important thing, and the more powerful the equipment, the more important other factors, such as battery life.

He began his writing adventure in the now defunct Mobilny Świat. Then browse different technology sites. Although he’s not a typical player and his PC only has Football Manager, he made it to GOL last year. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t see reviews of new smartphones, which is why he first wrote about all kinds of technology. As time passed, his interests moved more towards cinema. He spends most of the year sleep-deprived from staying up late to watch NBA games. However, he still believes that Michael Jordan is better than LeBron James and that 90s basketball was more pleasing to the eye.
