President of Germany: The country is at a “critical point” due to the migration crisis

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the number of migrants arriving in Germany has brought the country to a “critical point.” Germany, like Italy, has reached the limits of its capabilities, Steinmeier said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Wednesday before the start of a three-day visit to Italy.

“Italy and Germany bear a heavy burden,” he said, adding that “Germany has already accepted more than 1,000 refugees from Italy under the previous voluntary solidarity mechanism, more than any other European country.”

– Only in the first half of this year, 162 thousand. Steinmeier said that people who have applied for asylum in Germany account for more than a third of all applications in the European Union. In addition, there are more than one million refugees from Ukraine currently staying with us. This is why Germany, like Italy, is at a critical point.
