The rapper’s performance at Cirque Maxime on Monday drew backlash from archaeologists and other authorities, CNN reported Wednesday.

While Travis Scott was performing at the venue, 60 people sought medical help after an unidentified man fired tear gas. A 14-year-old fan was also reportedly injured after climbing a false wall in an attempt to watch the show for free.

Italian firefighters said they received “hundreds of calls” reporting an apparent earthquake on the evening of the concert. The calls were reportedly timed to coincide with rapper Kanye West’s appearance on stage. Her surprise appearance in 2022 was her first public performance since the anti-Semitism controversy.

Alphonsina Russo, director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, has called for a halt to large-scale concerts at the Circus Maximus. “Circus Maximus is a monument. It is not an arena, not a concert hall,” Italian publication AGI told AGI. “These mega rock concerts are putting it at risk, including the nearby Palatine Hill. Rock concerts must be held in arenas so as not to endanger public safety.”
