Europa League: Robert Lewandowski’s goal wasn’t enough. Barcelona at sea!

Robert Lewandowski and company withdrew from the Europa League.

Barcelona lost 2-1 to Manchester United in the second leg of 1/16 of the European League Finals and left the European Cups. Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal for the Catalan club from a penalty kick. In turn, the goals that were important for the “Red Devils” were scored by the Brazilians Fred and Anthony. The first meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw.

The hosts started the game better and after three minutes should take the lead. Bruno Fernandez found himself in a one-on-one confrontation with Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but lost a direct duel with the Barcelona goalkeeper.

A quarter of an hour later, the Portuguese could again blame himself. He commits a foul on an opponent’s player in his own penalty area. Alejandro Balde fell on the field and referee Clément Turpin pointed a lime. Robert Lewandowski approached the soccer ball at the 11th meter and after a moment was happy to score a goal. However, his shot was almost saved by David De Gea.

Just before the break, the Catalans could have enjoyed another goal. The Red Devils goalkeeper made a huge mistake. Sergi Roberto grabbed the ball in the penalty area, but at the last moment Lisandro Martinez made an effective tackle.

Immediately after the break, the fans gathered at Old Trafford could breathe a sigh of relief. Jadon Sancho passed the ball to Fernandes, who put the ball to Fred, who fired an accurate shot from the penalty area not giving Ter Stegen a chance.

FC Barcelona managed to respond after an hour of play. In the “sixteen” headed Jules Conde, but De Gea showed an excellent save.

Missed opportunities avenge – that cliché was once again reflected on the pitch. Alejandro Garnacho had a great chance, but his attempt still caught the Catalans. The other substitute, Anthony, got the ball and sent it into the net. Thanks to this goal, it was the Islanders who could enjoy promotion to the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. In the first match for both teams at the Camp Nou, there was a draw 2: 2.

On the other hand, for Lewandowski and the company, this is the end of dreams about the title in European cups. The “Blaugrani” is still fighting to win the Spanish League and the King’s Cup.
