Samantha Stosur has decided to retire from the singles tournament in 2022 and focus on the doubles and mixed doubles tournaments. She also announced that she would end her career immediately afterwards Australian Open Championship. However, her participation in the home tournament ended prematurely – a defeat in the mixed doubles with Matthew Ebden. After the meeting, it became clear that Samantha Stosur wasn’t joking when she talked about ending her career. The 38-year-old immediately broke down in tears. She cuddled up with her mixed doubles partner and walked around the court thanking the fans. She also earned respect from her opponents, who thanked her for the start and embraced the player who ended her career. Moments later, Stosur took the microphone and once again thanked the crowd at the Australian Open.

“As a little kid, I dreamed of surviving my retirement in front of my friends, family and Australian fans who have always supported me. What bothers me the most is that I can’t go to every tournament and see all the people I love.

“I know I will miss playing at a professional level Tennis, all the amazing experiences and emotions of being on the road and doing what I’ve been doing almost my entire life. I look back and am grateful for my entire career,” the tennis player wrote on social media ahead of the tournament.

In addition to the US Grand Slam tournament, she won more Roland Garros (2006) and the Australian Open (2019).
