Artur Chmielewski works for the US agency NASA, where he deals with space missions. He does not hide that Poland can mean more in this industry. “It may be, if not the first, then at least the seventh force in the universe,” he argues. For this, however, it is necessary to participate in the financing of the Polish Space Agency (POLSA), which supports the national agency on behalf of the government space industry.
– NASA is very open to cooperation with POLSA, but it only wants to cooperate with space agencies, not with private companies from abroad. POLSA representatives were recently at NASA along with the crowd Polish companies And The US agency is very interested in cooperating with the Poles after this meeting. Just that POLSA must have the money for it Chmielewski concludes.
He argues that there should not be a lot of money. Not as big as the cost of sending the James Webb Space Telescope into space, which comes to $2.5 billion. “You don’t need that much.” Already 10-15 million dollars. He managed to cooperate with NASA. They’re really great in some areas, but they don’t have that space experience yet. What I recommend is for POLSA to have a bigger budget and to be able to collaborate with agencies like us,” Chmielewski suggests.

Our interlocutor argues about it In the perspective of 2040, we will already have a base on the Moon and the first man on Mars. “We can fly commercially to the moon now. That’s where the fuel is, that’s where the rockets can be launched, that’s where the water is, that’s where the base can be. Today there’s also talk of using helium-3, which might be source of energy on the earth. On the other hand, we go to Mars for other reasons – says Chmielewski.
He adds that it is about the safety of our planet. – We should have a base on Mars because without scaring people off, sooner or later something is going to hit Earth. Just like 66 million years ago, something wiped out the dinosaurs. Comets and asteroids are circling us, and one of them will pass by in 2029. Just 10 years ago we thought they might crash into us. Such an object, measuring 340 m, would be enough to destroy California or Poland. “We don’t know where it will hit,” a NASA official said.

Added to this is the need for expansion. – In the United States, no one doubts this, because initially there were colonies on the eastern coast of America and it was clear to everyone that we must move to the West. This is the American mentality. In Poland, on the other hand, a defensive mentality is often prevalent, and there is no need to cross borders,” explains Chmielewski.
He also confirmed that the first man on Mars could be a woman from Poland. – Why not? If someone from Poland is reading this, they are probably thinking: “Where is that”. That’s bad thinking. A Polish woman will do it and the Polish flag will show up first. A Polish woman will be the first to land on Mars. This is how you should think convinces our interlocutor.
