Seeded from “7” Hurkacz qualified for the 1/8 finals of the tournament in Canada, without even going onto court. The first opponent Hurkacz had to face on court in Toronto was Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili. The 29-year-old tennis player has played five sets so far in Canada. First, he defeated American Jenson Broxby after a three-set match, then in less than an hour he crushed the 18th world tennis player Alex de Minaur 6:1, 6:1.

However, Hubert Hurkacz is a player of a much higher class than the two tennis players defeated by the Georgian. Pole is currently ranked 13th in the ATP rankings, and at the Toronto Championships he was given a rating of “7”. Basilashvili is ranked 42 in the world rankings. Later it was Hurkacz who managed to dominate the meeting and, despite an unlucky start, managed to win with the lower-ranked opponent.

The match ended nearly three hours later with a score of 6:7 (7), 6:4, 6:4 for Hubert Hurkacz. Thus, the Pole qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament in Toronto. In it, he will face a great challenge, because the Wroclaw player will play Danio Medvedev, who is ranked in Canada with the number “1”. Hubert Hurkacz will fight for a surprise.
