A prop from Stanley Kubrick’s movie The Shining, which was up for auction, has found a buyer. I’m talking about the ax that Jack Nicholson was hunting down Shelley Duvall. To purchase the most famous ax in the cinema, an anonymous buyer had to spend $ 175,000.
It was donated by an anonymous buyer to the famous prop to the owners of the Stanley Film Center shortly after the auction. It is an entertainment complex under construction near the Stanley Hotel that inspired Stephen King to write “The Shining”. There will be a place for a museum dedicated to horror. The ax sold at auction will be one of the exhibits there. “I can’t imagine anything more fitting than this piece of cinematic history to start our museum’s collection,” Rand Harrington, president of the Stanley Film Center, was pleased with the gift, told Indiewire.
The Stanley Film Center is still under construction and scheduled to open in the spring of 2024. Until the complex opens, the “The Shining” ax will be on display at the Stanley Hotel.
