Lavrov said President Vladimir Putin ordered the suspension of military action during the first round of talks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators in late February, but Moscow’s position has since changed.

– Having found out that the Ukrainians do not intend to reciprocate, it was decided that during the next rounds of talks there will be no interruption (in military activities – editor) until a final agreement is reached – said Lavrov.

Russian officials say peace talks with Ukraine are not progressing as quickly as they would like. They accused the West of trying to stifle negotiations by raising allegations of war crimes in Ukraine, which Moscow denied.

Last week, Lavrov accused Kyiv of presenting to Moscow an “unacceptable” draft peace agreement that differs from what the two sides had previously agreed upon. Kyiv then dismissed Lavrov’s comments as a tactic aimed at weakening Ukraine or diverting attention from accusations of war crimes against Russian soldiers.

Ukraine and Russia are constantly negotiating with Russia from a distance, Mikhailo Podolak, adviser to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Ukrainian television on Friday, but the mood changed after the discovery of the crime in Bokza near Kyiv.

Podolak also said Ukraine is working on the possibility of evacuating civilians from besieged Mariupol in southern Ukraine by sea, according to Reuters. According to the presidential adviser, any temporary cease-fire in the war with Russia is just a “postponement of war”, and this is not in the interests of Ukraine.

Ukrainian authorities accuse Russian forces of committing mass killings in Bokza. Moscow denies committing crimes against civilians in Ukraine and believes the West is rigged, Reuters explains.

“Ukrainian authorities have identified 500 war crimes suspects, and to date have counted only 5,600 cases of alleged war crimes,” Ukrainian Prosecutor General Irina Wendyktova told Sky News on Sunday.

From the beginning of April The world is watching the photos taken by the Ukrainians after the recovery of Bokza. You can see charred and mutilated bodies lying in the streets or covered in dirt in mass graves. Some of the victims’ hands were tied behind their backs.

An analysis of satellite imagery by the New York Times refutes Russia’s claim that the killings of civilians in Bokza took place after its soldiers left the city. The Russian Defense Ministry noted that the bodies were recently taken to the streets after “all Russian units withdrew completely from Bokza”. A review of video recordings and satellite imagery taken by New York Times journalists shows that several civilians were killed more than three weeks ago, while the Russian military continued to hold the city.
