The difficult situation in Georgia

However, the conflict in these areas goes further than it was until the war in 2008. Abkhazia and South Ossetia went to war with Georgia almost immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The residents of the two regions wanted autonomy, independence from Tbilisi, and equal rights and access to office.

While in the eyes of the Georgians the Abkhazians have long been residents of the northwestern part of the country, having formed a common kingdom with them centuries ago, many Tbilisi residents of South Ossetia consider an “artificial creature”. It should be noted that these regions are more pro-Russia than Abkhazia, because at the turn of the 80s and 90s, separatists from Tskhinvali began to demand independence.
