Tokamak Energy has reached a temperature of 100 million degrees in a spherical tokamak. It's a record

Tokamak Energy has achieved the highest temperature ever recorded in a spherical tokamak and at the same time as any privately funded tokamak. So far the border 100 million degrees Celsius It is exceeded only in government laboratories, so the company has reason to be satisfied. What’s more, so far £50m has been spent on research and has only lasted five years.

The plasma was heated to the aforementioned 100 million degrees Celsius in a ST40 spherical tokamak, a compact fusion device. Up to 25 different diagnostic tools were used to measure temperature using advanced measurement techniques. In addition, the data has been validated by a community of scientists and experts.

Chris Kelsall, CEO of Tokamak Energy, said:

Tokamak Energy intends to modernize the ST40 tokamak, which is destined to become the base for the ST-HTS devices – the first spherical tokamaks with high-temperature superconducting magnets. It is planned to be put into service in the middle of this decade. On its basis, an experimental fusion power plant will be created, the commissioning of which is scheduled for the beginning of the 30s.
