World Health Organization officials met Thursday to discuss a new type of coronavirus circulating in South Africa and Botswana.

Bloomberg report on a special meeting of the World Health Organization. As we already mentioned on Business Insider Polska, A dangerous new type of SARS-CoV-2 virus has been detected in South Africa and Botswana. The new variant, called B.1.1529, contains an unusually high number of mutations, Francois Ballou, director of the UCL Institute of Genetics, said in a statement published by the Science Media Center. He said the variant most likely developed during the chronic infection of an immunocompromised person, possibly in an untreated HIV/AIDS patient.

It’s hard to predict how transferable it will be at this point Blox said. “For now, it should be closely monitored and analyzed, but there is no reason for undue concern unless the number of infections begins to increase in the near future,” he added.
