Windows 10 should be updated regularly, just like any other operating system. It is true that there are problems from time to time, but in most cases, Microsoft adds new and useful functions and, above all, improves security. However, some things are best left unattended.

If you decide to update Windows 10, you should do so only using the Windows Update app. It automatically detects and downloads relevant news. The alternative is also the official Microsoft website, where you can also download all packages with updates. Otherwise, you are asking for trouble.

Fake Windows 10 updates have recently started circulating on the web, and worse still, many users have downloaded them. The computer ended up installing a virus that encrypted the data on the disk. The attackers demanded a fee of $2,500, or 0.068 BTC, to decrypt the data. In this case, there is nothing else to do but format and lose all files.

The fake modernization campaign may have started on April 8, 2022 and continues to this day. It mainly targets regular Windows 10 users by offering them downloads with different names. The most used are “Win10.0_System_Upgrade_Software.msi” and “Security_Upgrade_Software_Win10.0.msi”. Under no circumstances should you try to install them.
