Venice Film Festival 2022. Awards Ceremony [RELACJA NA ŻYWO]

Enters the 79th Venice International Film Festival in history. Prizes were handed out at the Lido on Saturday evening. This year’s main competition included 23 films, which were judged by a jury headed by Hollywood star Julianne Moore. A film directed by a woman won the Golden Lion for the second year in a row.

The Venice International Film Festival is the oldest event of its kind in the world and one of the so-called Big Five alongside the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, the Sundance Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. Each year, the Venetian island of Lido is filled with the greatest stars of author and mainstream cinema. An Italian festival verdict is often indicative before Oscar season.

  • The most important prize of the evening, the Golden Lion, went to Laura Poitras’ film All Beauty and Bloodshed.

  • The Silver Lion – the Grand Jury Prize – goes to Alice Diop for “Saint Omer”.

  • The Silver Lion for Best Director went to Luka Guadagnino for Bones and All.

  • The Special Jury Prize went to “No Bears” by Jaafar Panahi. The Iranian artist could not attend the festival. Panahi protested against censorship of filmmakers in Iran in May, and was arrested two months later for “inciting a demonstration”.

  • The director and screenwriter of “The Banshees of Inisherin” – Martin McDonagh – was honored for Best Screenplay. McDonagh received the same award in 2017 for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.

  • Cate Blanchett was honored with the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. Todd Field was awarded the Australian Award for her role in the movie “Tar”. This is the second Venice Film Festival award in her career. I got my first one in 2007.

  • Farrell was not present at the ceremony, and the award was received by McDonagh.

  • The Volpi Cup for Best Actor goes to Colin Farrell for his performance in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin.

  • The Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actress went to Taylor Russell for his performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All.

  • The jury of the main competition appeared on the stage of the festival, which will award the most important prizes of the festival.

  • The Orizonte jury chose “World War III” by Houmann Sidi as the best film in the competition.

  • The Orizonte jury rated “Snow in September” by Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir as the best short film in the department.

  • Received the film Lion of the Future – “Luigi De Laurentiis” “Saint Omar” Senegalese-French director Alice Diop.

  • The Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary Feature Film went to K. Dr.. Davison.

  • The Venice Classics award for Best Restored Film went to Seijun Suzuki’s “Anointed to Kill.”

  • Chen won Best Experience at the Venice Immersive Competition for The Man Who Couldn’t Leave.

  • The Grand Jury Prize for the Venice Immersive Competition went to “From The Main Square” by Pedro Harris.

  • The Special Jury Prize in the Venice Immersive Competition went to “Eggspace” by German director Heller.

  • This year’s honorary Golden Lions award went to: Catherine Deneuve And the Paul Schrader.

  • The evening’s host says that this year’s edition can be described by the word “courage”.

  • The ceremony was opened by Croatian cellist Stepan Hauser, who played his version of the famous piece “Historia d’en Amor”. In the background, excerpts from the most important moments in the history of the festival are shown.

Venice 2022. The most awaited address

For the first time since 2020, this year’s edition of the festival is being held without pandemic restrictions. There are many long-awaited titles in the main competition. Among them is “The Banshees of Inisherin” – the latest black comedy by Martin McDonagh, creator of the Academy Award-winning movie “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”. Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu presented Bardo, A False Chronicle of a Fistful of Facts, inspired by the Greek tragedy of Roman Gavras “Athena”, while Andrew Dominic presented “Blonde” – a biopic of Marilyn Monroe starring Anna de Amaras. After its premiere, the movie was critically acclaimed this year, and lasted 14 minutes.

Also featured in the main competition was Joanna Hogg’s new film “The Immortal Daughter” starring Tilda Swinton. Luca Guadagnino competed for the Golden Lion from Bones & All and Daren Aronofsky from The Whale. Florian Zeller’s new movie “The Son,” the next part of the trilogy that “Father” started with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, has been critically acclaimed.

This year’s edition of the Venice Film Festival was opened by Noah Baumbach “White Noise”.
