A month ago, I would give my hand to the fact that CD Projekt RED will prepare us, at the latest, for this year’s holiday one of the best-selling drinks, created for the new generation of consoles. And imagine what? I won’t have a single hand today.
The Witcher “Beep”?
The start of last week was very optimistic for CDPR fans. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt received a rating from PEGI (on Monday to be exact), and moments later the related message was also released by the ESRB, which publishes single-player video games in the US market. There have been many indications that since Geralt’s adventure is already rated with PS5 and XSX mode | S in mind, it will be released sooner than Cyberpunk 2077, which many previous gene pool owners have bad memories of.
Another fact spoke about the premiere of The Witcher 3 in the last quarter of this year – the debut of the second season of the Netflix series, which is based on the same universe created by original writer Andrzej Sapkowski. With such a move, you can kill two birds with one stone, because we remember exactly how interesting the title, which was released in May 2015, after the publication of the first season of The Witcher, which took place less than two years ago.
As talks about the updated history of The Butcher from Blaviken started gaining momentum, CD Projekt decided to publish a related message in which team representatives announced that neither Cyberpunk 2077 nor The Witcher 3 will appear for PS5 and XSX | S debuts in the same calendar year, adding that the first title will see the light of day on new Sony and Microsoft devices in the first quarter of 2022, and the second production – in the second quarter of 2022.
After reading the publisher’s announcement, I was very upset. Anyway – everyone who is waiting for these adventures is somehow disappointed, because how long can you wait for “ports” for new consoles? However, when we think a little longer, moving the premiere to the following months isn’t as stupid as it might first seem.
Right or wrong decision?
First, the last quarter of this year has already been flooded with high-budget productions. Just around the corner smiling at us in Call of Duty: Vanguard and Forza Horizon 5. A little further away, you can see Battlefield 2042 and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition, and we can’t forget the highly acclaimed Halo Infinite. If that wasn’t enough, Marvel: Guardians of the Galaxy recently appeared on the market, and fans of space flights (Chorus) and farms (Farming Simulator 22) will also find something for themselves. November and December are packed with tons of hits, so there might not be enough room for any CD Projekt RED games to debut.
Second, is a quick first display of the two recovered items, regardless of which one, really necessary? Or – perhaps – we want to read the posts of people who will be complaining about tires falling in specific places again in social media, thus preventing players who draw more attention to the plot, quest project or dialogues themselves from sharing their feedback on individual topics of the scenario? I’m sure everyone would prefer to avoid it.
Despite the fact that at first – like most of our readers (based on the comments below newsletter I reported the delay of the first and second shows) – I was also angry with CD Projekt, so after thinking for a moment I think this decision is not so bad. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 will see some major changes to the gameplay mechanics, which, thanks to the greater computing power of PS5 and XSX | S, it should work better on new hardware and, above all, more accurately than the previous generation of consoles. How will you be? We’ll live and see, but my attitude to the new versions CP2077 and W3 is optimistic.
