The return of the computer science class legend. Elasto Mania hit smartphones, for free!

If I had to list my childhood games, Elasto Mania would definitely be among them

Often times, when we remember different things, we don’t necessarily remember the best of them, because things that have a lot of feelings are stored in our memory faster. Therefore, for many people, Elasto Mania has become a game that is difficult to forget, and not because it was a great game. This arcade game delivered a lot of fun and drove the players crazy at the same time. Even now, I remember getting almost to the finish line on one of the more difficult levels and… falling off the platform because I was late hitting the key. If you never enjoyed playing this title, now you can give it a try, although it seems to me that this is one of those games that needs at least a little emotional boost to make you want to spend more time with it.

Let’s face it, we can find thousands of better arcade games in the Google Store, but nostalgia plays the main role here. Elementary or middle school times, computer science classes, where we were mainly surfing the internet and playing such titles. The joint excitement of the game, and even the organization of small competitions, because we did such things in my class. Great memories. And that’s probably what the company responsible for the remastered version of Elasto Mania had in mind – to bring back the fun moments of youth. Well, it seems like a small boom, but it’s been 23 years since the first version of Elasto Mania was released.

Nostalgia is one thing, but is it playable at all?

I rarely play games on the phone, and arcade games are practically not like that at all, so from the very beginning it was a difficult task for me. Elasto Mania loads quickly and as soon as the menu loads, you can see that three additional level packs have been added here, which weren’t in the original. We also have the option to play online, although this option is still in the testing, ranking and achievements phase.

I started with the classic tutorial, then tried some normal levels (there is an option to skip a level if you are not good at it). I don’t know if this is my fault or the game itself, but the controls on the touchscreen aren’t very intuitive. It is possible to get used to it after a long time, but the starts are very difficult here – it is simply difficult to keep the balance of the motorcycle, and yet it is one of the most important issues in this title. The levels are varied, and maybe the more you advance, the more interesting (and harder) it will be.

Elasto Mania Remastered Edition Available for free on the Google Play Store And in my opinion, it’s worth trying to play it, especially if you have memories associated with it. It looks very good and carries a strong dose of nostalgia. More than a thousand people have already downloaded it, and the number of players is constantly growing. Just a warning, this game can really drive a guy crazy, though in this case I’m not sure if the gameplay itself or the controls would do it. Fortunately, the title appeared in 2020 on the Steam platform, and starting in 2021 it is also available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series S | X, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in an updated version. So if you don’t like it on your smartphone, you can always try playing on another platform – you just have to pay there.
