Spaceballs are back.  There will be a sequel!  Starring Josh Gad
Will no one in the galaxy hear our laugh again? Amazon MGM Studios is preparing a sequel to the classic comedy “Spaceballs.” The production stars Josh Gad (“Beauty and the Beast”), and producers include original film director Mel Brooks.

“Spaceballs 2” is coming

At the moment, we don’t know the plot details of “Spaceballs 2.”The film’s screenplay was written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. Josh Greenbaum (“Unleashed”) will be behind the camera. Kevin Salter is executive producer.

What elements of the “Star Wars” universe will Gad, Brooks and company decide to mock this time? Since the original premiere, there have been enough new films and series from this universe to provide some material for comedians.

This isn’t the first time Mel Brooks has revisited one of his old projects.
In 2023, he wrote and produced the series “History of the World: Part 2”, a sequel to his 1981 film “History of the World: Part 1”. The cast of the sequel included, among others: Josh Gad.

What is “Spaceballs” about?

The original “Spaceballs” film premiered in 1987. The film was a parody of “Star Wars” and told the story of how the evil Lord Helmet ordered the kidnapping of Princess Vespa in order to obtain invaluable air supplies from her home planet. Space adventurer Lone Star, encouraged by the girl’s father, sets out to rescue her.

The film’s cast includes Bill Pullman (Lone Star), John Candy (Barf), Daphne Zuniga (Princess Vespa), Rick Moranis (Lord Helmet), and Mel Brooks (Chief Scroop and Master Yogurt).
